Race Team

This last year we merged the Cycle Cambridge.com team with GRG Racing.com to create one of the baddest teams in Ontario. Rather than just have a bunch of people wearing the same jerseys, we are working to build the finest development program in the province. Coaching, bike fitting, strategy sessions and team building all aimed to create an atmosphere that brings the best out of our athletes.

We cover a range of disciplines including road, xc and endurance mountain bike racing, duathalon and track racing.

As the GRG Team started as a Masters program, we now have one of the top masters teams, with the horsepower to contest any race they are in.

Our Master 1 team is made up of returning warriors Fred Perez, Patrick Dooling, Craig McCarthey, Rich Poplak, Jimmy Blackburn and Matt Chaffe. To further beef up the team we’ve added power house time trialist John McCormack and ironman Oscar Retamal.

Our Master 2 team is led by Julian Howitt who finished 3rd in the Ontario Cup last season. The team is rounded out by Andy Selin, Kevin Mclean, Craig Gignac and myself, when I get my fat butt in shape.

On the mountain bike front our focus is mainly on endurance races. Led by Matt Wynen, we will be contesting 8 hour races, enduros and Matt’s fave, the summer 24 hour solo. Last year he finished 10th competing in the open class while riding a rigid, single speed. His goal this year is top 5, so I’ve had to come up with a program that takes an already talented rider and make him into an indestructable monster. Kinda like Frankenstein’s monster. Off to the grave yard we go.

And we’ve made a small start with a women’s program adding Aussie Shelley Boa to the roster. Shelley will be racing road, mountain and track with the long term goal of making the 2009 Master Track World Championships.
