winmtnview.jpgThese bios are tough. I’m a passionate cyclist who is obsessed with the freedom that you get on bicycle. I think I’ve got the teacher gene, because whether it’s bike fitting, coaching or helping people make good equipment choices, I get great satisfaction from helping people improve.

My favorite types of rides are long. 100 mile road rides, mulit days races and 8 hour mountain bike races are all among my faves. These types of challenges drive me because they are a test of what I’m made of. Past a certain time, it stops being about how fast you are and move into how tough you are or I am as the case may be. Epic adventure and getting lost are my personal goal. The fitness is just a cool by-product.

I’m an independent thinker who thinks that conventional wisdom is for suckers. My approach is to take many ideas and techniques and throw them into the blackbox and observe the results. Just like Bruce Lee, we keep what works and discard what doesn’t. This system applies to bike fitting, training and even my approach to business. I don’t do things because of tradition, I do them because they work. I look at sources outside of cycling as well the most current research and data from the bike world. For instance, I came up one of the most effective on the bike interval workouts by adapting research done with runners. I love the tradition of cycling but I’m not tied to keeping my ideas in the box.

In addition, I’m a big proponent of using the bicycle to make the world a better place. Bikes aren’t just toys. I believe they can be a great way to get around. Commute to work, go shopping and drop by the pub. For every bike on the road, there is one less car. Cleaner air, less traffic and you get a good workout. Plus if you can make a major portion of your travels by bike, you will save thousands of dollars per year.

And I practice what I preach. I’ve been a dedicated bike commuter for close to 20 years. I don’t own a car, rain or shine, winter or summer, I’m on the bike getting where I’ve got to go.

If you’ve got a bit of spare time, drop by, have a coffee and let me know how we can help you become a better rider.
